Personalised Hand-Inked Plymouth Oak Lamp

Your story, your design, hand-inked onto a piece of reclaimed Plymouth oak.

Create a completely personal lamp for someone special — whether it’s a name, meaningful words, a favourite quote, a simple illustration or a combination of them all.

Each lamp is individually designed and hand-finished by us in our Devon studio using reclaimed Plymouth oak. Your chosen artwork is hand-inked directly onto the timber by Andy, making every lamp completely unique.

Gayathri’s lamp, pictured here, was created for her 18th birthday. Her dad chose a lighthouse design with her name, and we paired it with our Metz Amber bulb — its warm, textured glass reminded us of the glass in a lighthouse lantern and finished the design beautifully.

How your personalised lamp is created

You don’t need to have the finished design worked out before you order — that’s part of what we’re here for.

If you have an idea but would like to talk it through first, you’re very welcome to contact us before placing your order for a quick chat about what you have in mind. We can let you know what we think will work well on the oak and help you develop the idea.

Once your order has been placed, we’ll contact you personally with a few design questions. This is where you can tell us about the person the lamp is for, the artwork or imagery you’d like to include, names, dates, words, quotes or anything else that has meaning.

We’ll then use your ideas to create a mock-up of your lamp for you to approve. Nothing is permanently hand-inked onto your piece of Plymouth oak until you’re happy with the design.

Because we work directly onto natural oak, the artwork is created in monochrome, giving a beautiful contrast against the grain and character of the timber.

The exact height of your lamp can also be determined as part of this design process. Each piece is approximately 10cm × 10cm, with a maximum height of 20cm, but we may suggest a shorter piece if it works better with the proportions of your chosen artwork.

Once you’ve approved everything, Andy will hand-ink the final design directly onto the oak before it is sealed, finished and assembled into your lamp.

Make the rest of it yours too

The lampholder is recessed into the top of the oak for a beautifully simple finish, leaving your choice of bulb to become part of the overall design.

Choose something subtle, oversized, sculptural, clear, amber or wonderfully unusual — the bulb can completely change the personality of your lamp. Bulbs are available separately from our collection.

You can also choose your cable colour to complement the artwork, bulb or room. Your lamp comes with 1.75 metres of cable as standard. Longer lengths are available for £6 per additional metre.

As each lamp is individually designed and made for you, please allow up to four weeks from approval of your design.
