The Stave
A long wooden kitchen light handcrafted from a reclaimed whisky barrel stave – a distinctive 5-light design for kitchen islands, dining tables and lower ceilings, with a lead time of just 4 weeks.
The Stave takes everything we love about our larger wooden beam chandeliers and strips the design back to its simplest form. Handmade in our Devon workshop from a single reclaimed whisky barrel stave, its natural curve creates the framework for five individually suspended bulbs.
At approximately 93cm long, it's substantial enough to create a feature above a dining table, kitchen island, home bar or entertaining space, without the scale, weight or cost of one of our larger timber chandeliers.
If you're planning lighting over an island, our Kitchen Island Lighting Guide has more advice on choosing the right size, position and style for your space.
And there's another reason we love this design: it's particularly clever in rooms where ceiling height is limited.
Two ways to hang it
The Stave can be mounted directly against the ceiling, as photographed. Turning the natural curve of the stave downwards creates a beautiful arch while eliminating the chains normally used to suspend our timber canopies.
That means more precious headroom beneath the light, making The Stave particularly useful as a long kitchen light for a low ceiling, or anywhere a traditional suspended chandelier simply wouldn't work. You can also explore our Lighting for Low Ceilings collection for more space-saving designs.
Have more height to play with? No problem.
The Stave can also be suspended from ceiling hooks and chains, allowing the timber itself to sit lower in the room. We'll make the suspension to suit your space and the look you want to achieve.

Bespoke lighting, beautifully simplified
The simplicity of The Stave is also what makes it one of our most accessible bespoke designs.
Using a single reclaimed whisky stave requires considerably fewer materials and making hours than our larger multi-piece chandeliers. We've deliberately kept the construction simple so that we can offer genuine handmade MooBoo lighting at a lower price point, without compromising on the components, craftsmanship or character that make our lighting distinctive.
Every stave has already lived another life. Expect individual grain, knots, markings, colour variations and subtle differences in curvature – they're part of its history rather than imperfections.
No two Staves will ever be exactly alike.
Lightweight by design
The single-stave construction also makes The Stave considerably lighter than many of our larger solid-oak chandeliers.
That makes it a great choice when you want the warmth and visual impact of reclaimed timber lighting without the weight and bulk of a larger beam. Its lighter construction also lends itself particularly well to direct-to-ceiling mounting, while the curved timber and five pendant bulbs still give the fixture plenty of presence.
As with all ceiling lighting, your installer should assess the suitability of the ceiling and select appropriate fixings for its construction.
Make it yours
The Stave features five lamp holders, with a choice of finishes and decorative cable options, allowing you to take the design from understated and contemporary to warm, traditional or industrial.
The bulbs can make a huge difference to the finished look too.
For a more economical combination, our ST64 and Small Globe decorative bulbs are currently £13.50 each and work beautifully with this fixture. For greater impact, choose Large Globe bulbs, as photographed, currently £19.99 each, or explore our range of decorative bulbs to create a different look.
Please note: bulbs are not included in the fixture price and should be purchased separately.

4-week lead time
The Stave is handmade to order in our Devon workshop with a lead time of just 4 weeks.
Its beautifully simple single-stave construction means we can make The Stave considerably more quickly than many of our larger bespoke timber chandeliers. Each fixture is still individually prepared, assembled, wired and tested in our workshop before leaving for its new home.
We'll confirm any information required for your installation, including your preferred suspension/drop where applicable.
If you're working to a particular installation date, please contact us before ordering and we'll be happy to discuss it with you.
Installation & technical information
The Stave is a mains-powered ceiling light and must be installed by a suitably qualified electrician.
Each fixture is individually wired and electrically tested before leaving our workshop. Because every installation is different, your electrician should assess the suitability of your ceiling and use appropriate fixings for its construction.
For projects where the electrical work needs to be completed before your finished light arrives, ask us about our Advance Wiring Kit, which allows preparatory work to be completed while your light is being made.
Designed around your home
Sometimes bespoke lighting isn't about making something bigger or more elaborate. It's about solving the particular problem a room presents.
Not enough ceiling height? We can lose the chains.
Need the fixture lower? We can add them.
Want to keep the overall project cost down? Choose simpler decorative bulbs.
Need a particular drop or finish? We'll configure the design around it.
That's the idea behind The Stave: a simpler MooBoo chandelier, without losing the things that make it MooBoo.
