One of the things we love most about designing bespoke lighting is that every project begins with a story.
Sometimes that story starts with a beautiful piece of reclaimed timber. Other times it begins with a quick sketch, a screenshot, or even a rough idea sent over in an email.
At MooBoo Home, we specialise in transforming unusual materials and creative ideas into handcrafted lighting, and we welcome our clients to be part of the design process from the very beginning.
Because when lighting is truly bespoke, the possibilities are almost endless.
Bring Us Your Timber, Driftwood or Reclaimed Materials
Many of our most memorable chandeliers begin with timber that already means something to our clients.
Recently, a client brought us a stunning piece of driftwood, collected years earlier. The natural twists and character of the branch made it perfect for a driftwood chandelier, and we designed the entire fixture around the shape of the wood.

Because of the unique form, we also had to think outside the box when designing the ceiling canopy. Standard multi-way ceiling roses simply didn’t suit the fixture, so we crafted a bespoke long rectangular canopy from spruce, allowing the cables to span elegantly across the branch while keeping everything balanced and safe.
The result was a completely unique chandelier that simply couldn’t have existed without that original piece of timber.
And this is something we encourage.
Clients regularly bring us:
-
Driftwood collected from favourite beaches
-
Old structural beams from renovations
-
Reclaimed barn timber
-
Vintage wooden reels
-
Antique architectural pieces
-
Salvaged industrial components
If it has character and structure, there’s a good chance we can transform it into a bespoke chandelier or pendant light.

When an Idea Starts With a Screenshot
Not every design begins with reclaimed timber. Sometimes it starts with a simple visual idea.
One of our recent clients took a screenshot of one of our existing designs and used a quick digital overlay to place two ribbed glass shades where she imagined them sitting.

That small piece of creativity was enough for us to visualise the direction of the design.
From there we created a completely new fixture using a double width beam of reclaimed Plymouth dockyard oak, designed specifically to support the proportions of the shades she had chosen.
The beam was also finished with a water-resistant treatment, allowing live plants to sit above the fixture and trail down around the lights — creating a beautiful combination of lighting and greenery.

While the timber is water resistant rather than waterproof (plants should always be removed before watering), this design allows clients to create a living display above their dining table or kitchen island.
This is a perfect example of how a simple screenshot and a little imagination can evolve into a truly bespoke lighting design.
Visualising Your Lighting Design
We know that commissioning bespoke lighting can feel daunting if you’re not sure how the final piece will look.
But it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Some of the easiest ways to communicate your ideas include:
-
Sending us a photo of your room
-
Marking up a screenshot of one of our designs
-
Overlaying shapes or shades using simple editing tools
-
Sharing images of timber, antiques or reclaimed materials
-
Sending inspiration images from interior design magazines or Pinterest
Even rough visual references can help us understand your vision and begin designing a fixture that fits perfectly into your space.
In many cases, those quick sketches or digital overlays become the starting point for a completely unique chandelier.
Bespoke Lighting for Kitchen Islands, Dining Tables and Feature Spaces
Many of our custom lighting designs are created for kitchen island lighting, dining tables, and open-plan living spaces, where a chandelier can become a central architectural feature.
Because every fixture is made by hand in our Devon workshop, we can tailor almost every element of the design:
-
Length and scale of the timber beam
-
Number and spacing of pendant lights
-
Cable colour and finish
-
Lamp holder styles
-
Glass shades or decorative bulbs
-
Custom ceiling canopies
-
Integration with plants or decorative elements
This flexibility allows us to create lighting that fits both the space and the personality of the home.
Turning Imagination Into Lighting
At MooBoo Home, our design philosophy is simple:
There is very little that can’t be transformed into beautiful lighting.
With the right combination of craftsmanship, creativity and engineering, materials that might otherwise be overlooked can become stunning chandeliers and pendant lights.
All that’s really needed is a little imagination.
Whether you have a piece of driftwood from a favourite holiday, an old beam from a renovation project, or just an idea sketched over a photograph, we’d love to see it.
Because turning our clients’ lighting dreams into reality is exactly what we do best.
